Conducting and Recording of Seeming Chrysalis — Manila Symphony Orchestra

In June 2025, Julia Sánchez conducted the live recording of her work Seeming Chrysalis with the Manila Symphony Orchestra at the iconic Aliw Theatre in Manila, Philippines. The project consolidates a line of work centered on musical dramaturgy and symphonic creation, conceived through a cinematic approach to orchestral sound that integrates stage gesture and narrative construction. This recording marks a milestone in her career, bringing visibility to her work as both composer and conductor in symphonic contexts of international reach.

2024

Professional Workshop at Film Scoring and Conducting — Los Angeles Film and Conducting (Warner Bros Studios)

In January 2024, Julia Sánchez took part in the professional training program Los Angeles Film & Conducting Intensive, focused on film scoring and orchestral conducting in a studio environment, held at Warner Bros. Studios in Los Angeles. Working and listening alongside leading figures from the audiovisual industry such as Conrad Pope, Booker White, Sheri Chung, Ross Williams, Fil Eisler, and Emily Bernstein, among others, deepened her interest in the dialogue between orchestral sound and cinematic narrative. This residency provided technical and aesthetic tools that now inform her musical and audiovisual projects, strengthening the link between her compositional practice and the production processes of film and studio work.

2022

International Sound Creation Program – Sacred Sounds, Sacred Spaces (European Civic University / NKUA)

In 2022, Julia Sánchez took part in Sacred Sounds, Sacred Spaces, an international program held at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens within the framework of the European Civic University (Erasmus) alliance. The experience focused on contemporary practices in composition and soundscape design, exploring the relationship between sound, space, listening, and architectural context from a creative and interdisciplinary perspective.

2017-2018

Cultural Management & International Exchange – Orquesta Escuela de Berisso / Orquesta Sinfónico Británico

Julia Sánchez served as the lead coordinator of the cultural exchange between Orquesta Escuela de Berisso (Argentina) and the British–Peruvian Symphony Orchestra (Peru) during 2017 and 2018, and also organized the first composition competition associated with this international project. The initiative fostered repertoire circulation, artistic collaboration among young musicians from both countries, and the premiere of selected works in venues in Lima and Berisso, strengthening cooperation between musical communities and contemporary creation in educational and symphonic contexts.

Julia Sánchez was a guest speaker at the Conducting Talks & Practice Series, organized by ASPEB and the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP) in Lima in May 2017. Artistic Collaboration — Nordic Saxophone Quartet

Julia Sánchez composed 花, a two-movement saxophone quartet (SATB) in a contemporary and experimental idiom, dedicated to the memory of Claude Debussy. The work was premiered in Stockholm with the Nordic Saxophone Quartet and became part of their repertoire during an international tour.

The collaboration with this leading ensemble on the Scandinavian scene enabled a compositional process closely linked to the quartet’s specific timbral and expressive qualities, consolidating a line of chamber writing conceived for specialized performers and for international circulation contexts.

Guest Composer — Scandinavian Saxophone Festival

Julia Sánchez was a guest composer at the Scandinavian Saxophone Festival across several editions, collaborating with performers and ensembles specialized in contemporary repertoire. In September 2015, Julia Sánchez was invited by the Ingesund School of Music (Karlstad University) to lead a seminar focused on the compositional and stylistic resources of Argentine folk repertoire. The session addressed traditions of folklore and tango from both analytical and creative perspectives, exploring rhythmic, melodic, harmonic, and formal procedures, as well as their potential reinterpretation within contemporary music contexts.

Orchestral Conducting — Orquesta Sinfónico Británico del Instituto Cultural Peruano Británico

Between 2014 and 2017, Julia Sánchez was invited to conduct the British–Peruvian Symphony Orchestra of the Peruvian–British Cultural Institute in Lima, Peru. Julia worked as an Assistant Stage Director at the Opera Studio of Teatro Argentino de La Plata, participating in productions such as Così fan tutte e I due timidi. 2009

Award-Winning Work —  i2 –  Concurso Juan Carlos Paz – Fondo Nacional de las Artes (Argentina)

The work i2, composed by Julia Sánchez, was awarded in the Juan Carlos Paz Competition and recognized by Argentina’s National Arts Fund. The piece is a multimedia work for solo cello and real-time electronics, conceived in close relationship with an audiovisual piece directed by Pablo Rabe and Diego Defeo.

The composition integrates extended instrumental techniques and precisely timed electronic processing, developing an approach closely related to film scoring and the contemporary experimental tradition. i2 stands as one of the first works in her catalogue to articulate technology, audiovisual narrative, and instrumental writing as a fully integrated whole.
