Julia Sanchez — Winner of the Vienna Composition Lab

Madrid, Spain — Argentine composer and conductor Julia Sanchez has been selected as one of the three winners of the 2026 edition of the Vienna Composition Lab, a program held in Vienna in cooperation with music publisher Universal Edition.

During the laboratory, held from August 3 to 12, Sanchez presented two original works performed by the Wiener Festspiele Ensemble: Bare, created for the “The Invisible Advertisement” challenge, and Zinrod & The Circle of Stone, created for the “A Scene Without Images” challenge. The latter is based on an original poem written by Sanchez herself.

As part of the prize, Universal Edition has awarded her a one-year professional subscription to scodo, its music notation and publishing platform, through which Julia Sanchez’s works will be published following an evaluation by its Artistic Committee.

The 2026 edition of the Vienna Composition Lab took place at the Musikverein Wien and the Vienna Opera Studios.
